B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee.
B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Today, there is a growing community of more than 2,300 Certified B Corps from 50 countries and over 130 industries working together toward 1 unifying goal: to redefine success in business.
B Corp certification shines a light on the companies leading the global movement of people using business as a force for good. Today, over 2356 companies in 50 countries worldwide were recognized for their exceptional social and environmental impact highlighting to the world that they are creating exceptional positive social and environmental impact.
Certified B Corporations go above and beyond in their pursuit of positive impact. All B Corporations take the B Impact Assessment and meet verified score requirements to become certified. In the assessment, companies are evaluated on their impact on the environment, their workers, their customers, and their communities; they also all meet the highest standards of accountability and transparency. Winning companies featured on the Best for the World lists scored in the top 10% of the B Corp community in each of five categories—they are the top performers in an already exceptional group of businesses.
BDCU Alliance Bank happens to be a BCorp organisation who gained accreditation in 2016 and featured in the top 10% . It continues to work towards improving its score on a number of fronts including Employer of Choice; Environment and Suppliers.
Of the top winning companies , honorees spanned over 50 countries and 130 industries. Companies honored for best overall performance include Colorado beer maker New Belgium Brewing and Roshan, a groundbreaking Afghanistan-based telecom that was recognized for their exceptional community work. In other categories, Revolution Foods, a company based in California that creates healthy food for children is being applauded for being the top business for customers; Sungevity, an American solar provider, was named number one for the environment; and Gardner’s Supply company, a Vermont retailer, was named the leading company for employees.
In Australia Certified Bcorps now number 213 and are growing every day.
At regular Bcorp events both in Australia and overseas, speakers from around the world dive into what it means to use business as a force for good—we’ve never seen such a powerhouse line-up. Through the Best for the World lists and events, a new generation of entrepreneurs to the B Corp movement continue to join the Bcorp community’s race to the top.
